UBI Housegroup
The UBI housegroup has continued to have regular and lively meetings throughout the year at venues in and around Exeter. Discussions are, as ever, on a wide and eclectic range of topics, this year including, for example, forgiveness, the future of Methodism, and justice. These discussions allow us to explore our faith in a reassuring and non-judgmental environment and to raise questions and thoughts which are harder to express in more public settings. There is a lot of laughter (even noise!) in our group but this is accompanied by genuine reflection on our Christian faith and the challenges of living as Christians in an increasingly secular country. In February, we enjoyed our annual Retreat at a youth hostel in Portland, with views over the prison! Our theme was Belief and had been triggered by some stinging criticisms on television and in the newspapers of those who believe in God. At various points in the year we have also enjoyed Games Evenings (I have a habit of telling people these are ‘adult’ games which unfortunately creates entirely the wrong impression!) and pub lunches. The spirit of the group continues to be buoyant, and in line with its name (UBI=where?) committed to the search for truth and social justice.
