Talking of God is a new faith sharing course. It will help individuals and congregations to talk about their faith journey.
Written by a group of evangelism and mission experts from across the country, the course will give people more confidence when it comes to sharing the stories of their faith in everyday life. It does this by encouraging conversations about conversations, and rooting it all in the Gospels.
Talking of God follows from the 2005 report to the Methodist Conference Time of Talk of God, which encouraged Methodists and other Christians to renew their ability to talk about God with each other.
Talking of God is made up of four sessions, run on Monday afternoons in the weeks prior to Easter, at Lympstone Methodist church, by Revd. Mark Gilborson, for the Exeter Coast and Country Circuit. It is also hoped that a further course will be run at St Thomas later in the year by Revd David Easton.
• 5th March - Starting the Conversation - each of us has a story to share
• 12th March - Conversation Stoppers – conversations can be hard
• 19th March - Conversations in Context – how our world can frame our conversations

At the heart of a village community, Exminster Methodist Church opens its doors to local groups and, thanks to recent improvements, is being increasingly used during the week. We are encouraged that our Christmas Tree Festival has become an annual village event, bringing groups and businesses together to support children’s charities. Sunday morning worship is the foundation for our witness and activism, and we are pleased to report a steadily growing congregation. We constantly seek new and relevant ways of expressing our faith to the world, and regularly join with other Christian Groups in the village to achieve this aim. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Note: the church only has a chemical toilet. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

(17) SIDFORD, EX10 9RL - Rev Brian Hadfield
Members - 14
Sidford is a small fellowship of about twenty people who hold an act of worship every Sunday morning. We hold a monthly bible and fellowship meeting. The church usually holds two events in the year with a view to mission and outreach; one at Christmas and the other in the summer. For over twelve months the church has been a ‘class’ of the Sidmouth Church and this has enabled development of the premises and has enabled support. New housing in the area will provide further opportunities for witness and hopefully growth. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sidmouth is a large church at the heart of this Regency seaside town. Our services include both traditional and contemporary elements of worship. Choir, prayer, healing and preaching are valued components of our Sunday Worship. We deliver a number of activities which cater for devotional and social needs; these include one of the largest Wesley Guilds in the country. We have some 36 pastoral visitors and a family worker who provide additional support to our minister. In recent years we have benefited from Church weekends away in Cornwall. We receive a lot of visitors and are blest with new people moving into East Devon. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We are a welcoming friendly church that says with conviction "all are welcome here." We are open to new ideas and diverse worship. The building is an extravagant towering dome of acoustic excellence with an organ that could be the creation of the phantom of the opera. We have Boys Brigade, Brownies, Sunday School, and the doors are open to concerts and drama. There are numerous groups that use the extensive premises. What we have is a wonderful sense of humour, enthusiasm for sharing food, music, and a joy in the love of Christ found in fellowship.

(21) TEDBURN ST. MARY, EX6 6AA - Rev Ann Varker
Members - 27 www.creditonmethodist.org.uk/section/tedburn.html
We are a friendly country chapel located seven miles west of Exeter, having an average congregation of twenty adults and a revitalised Junior Church of approx. six to eight youngsters. We regularly join with friends at the Parish Church for united services, charity lunches and occasional evening meetings. We are currently exploring fresh expressions of what being a church in the local community and the wider world could entail and we aim to look outwards rather than inwards. We are very keen that the church should play an active role in the village, with the local school, the Parish Church, in the Circuit and the wider world.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
(22) TEMPLE, EX9 6 - Rev Jonathan Froggatt
Members - 104
Temple provides Methodism in the heart of Budleigh Salterton near the sea front. The church was built in 1905 and refurbished in 2005, and caters for those seeking an established pattern of worship with a good number of teenage children taking an active part in church life. We attract many visitors and seek to spread the word of God through our worship services, outreach from weekday activities and partnership with other churches in the town. We trust that through witness, prayer and fellowship we can continue to share the love of Jesus with those in the town for years to come.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
(23) TOPSHAM, EX3 0HQ - Rev Paul Collings

Situated in the centre of Topsham, St Nicholas Methodist Church is moving in the current decade towards 150 years of witness in a town where community spirit is strong. The Church offers a well-supported Saturday coffee morning and the premises are used by various local groups (including the Topsham Rock School!). Activities include monthly Bible study and music evenings and a lunch club. The Church's prayer board is well used, with requests remembered in Sunday services. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
(24) TOWER STREET, EX8 1NT - Rev Elizabeth McDowell
Members - 113 www.towerstreet.org
Tower Street provides a centre for traditional Methodism in the heart of the town. Our Church, built in 1897, refurbished in 2006, still caters for those seeking an established pattern of worship. We attract many visitors over the year, whatever the season. We continue to seek to spread the word of God through our services, outreach and other fellowship groups and hope that through prayer we can look forward to a brighter future not only for ourselves but for Methodism in Exmouth.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
(25) WHIDDON DOWN, EX20 2QS - Rev Andrew Sails
Members - 6
Whiddon Down is a small West Devon village on the edge of Dartmoor and the only place of worship within three miles. The church is trying to exercise a Christian presence in a small rural community with Sunday services and a monthly ecumenical bible study. Trying to maintain the church building (1906) and adjoining graveyard proves increasingly challenging for an elderly congregation with limited resources. The numbers attending worship are generally small except for the Christmas Carol service, the Harvest Festival service and especially the Good Friday service which draws additional support from across a wide area.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Members - 23 Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Withycombe Methodist Church is a small but lively church with a membership of around 30. We are very friendly and believe in being a church family in it’s widest sense. Our worship (every Sunday morning and the evening of the first Sunday in the month) tends to be quite traditional. We hold coffee mornings on the first Saturday morning in each month and these are well attended by members of the whole circuit. We have an active Women’s Fellowship that meets on Thursday afternoons. Our hall is used on most evenings of the week with 3 Brownies groups, one Rainbows group, one Girl Guide group, Centre Stage youth group, Folk Dance group and yoga among them.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
(27) WONFORD, EX2 6NG - Rev Mark Gilborson
Members - 104 www.wonfordmethodistchurch.org.uk
Worship at Wonford continues to be a spiritual adventure and a joy. We keep an open door for all and offer a varied and creative witness in the community to which God has called us. Bible Study and fellowship groups feed our souls and Emmaus and Disciple courses challenge and strengthen our faith. Groups and a newly piloted Well-Café offer welcome and hospitality for older people. Young Church, Friday Toddlers, Youth Club and Girls Brigade, Messy Church and Holiday Clubs provides learning and social space for the young. With a mix of contemporary and traditional worship we seek to encourage everyone at all stages of their faith and offer strong pastoral and prayerful support to our members and congregation.
